Lunar Base Design Workshop
The Lunar Base Design Workshop was held in the Netherlands from 10 till 20 June 2002. A group of 40 students participated and produced conceptual designs of future Lunar Bases. Here are the PowerPoint presentations of the 6 groups: Anaxagoras, Gagarin, Kepler, Kopernikus, Tsiolkovsky, Tycho.
Origin of the Moon
Papers presented at the Conference on the Origin of the Moon, held in Kona, Hawaii, October 1984. Edited by W.K. Hartmann, R.J. Phillips, G. J. Taylor
Geologic History of the Moon, Don Wilhelms
Since 1987 The Geologic History of the Moon (D. Wilhelms) has remained the cornerstone reference for all lunar geologists, and was originally published as United States Geological Survey Professional Paper 1348. Unfortunately this volume has long been out of print. This is an online version of that book.
Apollo Over The Moon: A View From Orbit
This book presents only a fraction of the great volume of the photographs acquired during the Apollo Missions. The authors hope that this selection from some 18 000 metric, panoramic, and other camera views of the Moon will inspire further interest in Apollo photographs.
The First Men in the Moon by H. G. Wells
An online eBook: As a team of United Nations astronauts are planning an upcoming moon mission, they are approached by an elderly man who recounts a trip he took to the moon 65 years ago (in 1899) and was attacked by "Selenites," a race of ant-like beings that dwell in caverns of crystal...
Lunar Bases and Space Activities of the 21st Century
Papers from a NASA-sponsored, public symposium hosted by the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., Oct. 29-31, 1984. Edited by W.W. Mendell
Lunar Impact: A History of Project Ranger
Ranger was the first successful American project of lunar exploration. It was an enterprise sponsored by the NASA and executed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The project spanned the years 1959-1965 and culminated in closeup television pictures of the moon. The history of Ranger is essential to understanding the evolution and operational form of NASA's continuing program of unmanned exploration of deep space.
Destination Moon: A History of the Lunar Orbiter Program
The history of the Lunar Orbiter Program constitutes a significant chapter in the initial exploration of the Moon and America's first decade in space. It is part of the record of the preliminary phase in the Apollo Manned Lunar Landing Program, and we must now turn to its origins for a closer study of its role in putting the first men on the Moon on July 20, 1969.
Apollo Expeditions to the Moon by James C. Fletcher
No nation ever demonstrated its aspirations and abilities as dramatically as did the United States when it landed the first men on the Moon, or as much in public: More people on Earth watched that first small step on a foreign planet than had witnessed any prior event in the ascent of man.
The Apollo Spacecraft - A Chronology
A chronology of Apollo spacecraft in four volumes from 1960 to 1974.
Project Apollo: A Retrospective Analysis By Roger D. Launius
A monograph on Project Apollo.
Chariots for Apollo: A History of Manned Lunar Spacecraft
The story of Apollo is a remarkable chapter in the history of mankind. How remarkable will be determined by future generations as they attempt to assess and understand the relationship and significance of the Apollo achievements to the development of mankind. The authors hope that this book will contribute to their assessments and assist in their judgments.
Moonport: A History of Apollo Launch Facilities and Operations
By now the grandeur of the achievement of landing men on the moon and returning them to earth has taken its place in our language as a yardstick of human accomplishment - "lf we could send men to the moon, why can't we do so-and-so?" The most imposing artifact of that achievement is the Apollo launch facilities at Kennedy Space Center.
Where No Man Has Gone Before: A History of Apollo Lunar Exploration Missions By W. David Compton
The purpose of this book is only partly to record the engineering and scientific accomplishments of the men and women who made it possible for a human to step away from his home planet for the first time. It is primarily an attempt to show how scientists interested in the moon and engineers interested in landing people on the moon worked out their differences and conducted a program that was a major contribution to science as well as a stunning engineering accomplishment.
An Annotated Bibliography of the Apollo Program
When future generations review the history of the twentieth century they will judge humanity's movement into space, with both machines and people, as one of its most important developments. Even at this juncture the compelling nature of space flight, and the activity that it has engendered on the part of many peoples and governments, makes the U.S. civil space program a significant area of investigation. People from all avenues of experience and levels of education share an interest in, if not always an attraction to, the drama of space flight. No doubt the lunar landing of Apollo 11 in the summer of 1969 is the high point of this continuing drama.
On the Moon with Apollo 16: A guidebook to the Descartes Region
The purpose of this new guidebook is to give in simple terms information about the Apollo 16 mission to the Moon so that others can share with me the excitement of the scientific exploration of the Descartes region of the Moon.
How the Shaman Stole the Moon
This archaeoastronomy book details a dozen ways of predicting eclipses -- those paleolithic strategies for winning fame and fortune by convincing people that you're (ahem) on speaking terms with whoever runs the heavens.
The Face of the Moon: Galileo to Apollo
An online version of an exhibition catalog that was originally published in 1989. The catalog was written by William B. Ashworth, Jr and it won the First Place Award in the annual competition sponsored by the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries.
